Julie Ditrich is an Australian comics creator with a background in mainstream publishing and hypnotherapy. She is also a director/writer of Black Mermaid Productions, an Australian creative team with artist Jozef Szekeres, that focuses on comics and graphic novels.

Julie obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Professional Writing at the University of Canberra in 1986, where she majored in freelance writing, script writing and theatre/media. She has worked as a bookseller, book marketing manager and editor, and was also a coordinator of the Sydney children's literary program Aloud in the Park and Aloud in the Powerhouse.

Julie has worked as a writer on various comic books including the Australian independent Oblagon. In the USA, she was the co-creator and co-writer of the original ElfQuest: WaveDancers series for Warp Graphics and the Dart miniseries for Image.

Julie has worked full time as a freelance writer, editor and publishing consultant since 2004. During that time she ghosted five biographies, written an Australian history coffee table book, edited several mind-body-spirit books in the Australian mainstream non-fiction publishing arena, and has also edited several comics projects. She is currently focussing specifically on writing comics and graphic novels. Her upcoming project with Black Mermaid Productions is Elf~Fin: Hyfus & Tilaweed.

Julie and Jozef Szekeres are also the founders and the current portfolio holders of the Australian Society of Authors (ASA) Comics/Graphic Novels Portfolio which has been operating since July 2007.
